An Nead aig Ardbrae - The Nest at Ardbrae - is run by Douglas and Olivia MacRae.
Having grown up in the Highlands of Scotland, we both moved south to the cities to further our education and expand our horizons. Neither of us knew for certain that we would head north once more, but upon starting our family, we made the decision to return to our roots. Fortuitously, this was six months before the global pandemic. We were incredibly lucky to live in such surroundings during what was a challenging time for the whole planet.
In 2023, we decided to share our good fortune with others and designed and built An Nead to cater for hillwalkers, mountain bikers and general outdoor enthusiasts, who will enjoy the location and amenities that Lochaber has to offer as much as we do. By including bike storage and cleaning, a drying room and comfortable surroundings in which to relax after a day of exploring and adventures, we hope to provide you with everything you need to have an enjoyable stay.
Douglas loves biking, be it on the road, trails or mountains. If you would like any advice about road loops, gravel trails or mountain biking in the area, just ask! He even has a few amazing hike and bike routes planned out that let you see some stunning wilderness right from the doorstep.
Olivia loves hill running. If you are also crazy, you can ask her for advice on routes, such as running the ridge of the Grey Corries you can see from the windows, or tackling the highest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis.
We also have advice on places to eat, things to see - both famous and more off the beaten track - as well as many other local activities. Lochaber styles itself as the ‘Outdoor Capital of the UK’ and you can see why!
We wish you a pleasant stay with us, and if we can help in any way, please just contact us at any time.
